Sur Cultural Youth Center

Razeen Engineering Consultancy (REC) is proud to announce the completion of the detailed design for the “Sur Cultural Youth Center”, with construction supervision scheduled to commence shortly.

Strategically located in Sur, the project is envisioned as a dynamic civic destination that integrates cultural expression, youth engagement, and community development within a contemporary architectural framework rooted in Omani identity.

Project Highlights

  • Design Concept & Cultural Identity

The architectural concept reflects Sur’s maritime heritage and social fabric, translating traditional courtyard planning principles into a modern civic landmark. The finalized design emphasizes:

    • A strong architectural massing with shaded façades.
    • Central courtyard as a social and climatic focal point.
    • Clear zoning between public, semi-public, and service areas.
    • A welcoming civic presence along the main approach.

The building form and spatial organization encourage interaction while ensuring privacy and operational efficiency.

  • Site Planning & Access Strategy

The development incorporates a well-defined access and circulation system:

    Main Access & Drop-Off

    • A clearly defined Main Entrance facing the primary approach road.
    • Dedicated Drop-Off Zone directly in front of the main lobby for convenient visitor access.
    • Separate Youth Center Entry, Library Entry, and OLNG Entry to streamline user flow and operational control.
    • Controlled vehicular entry points ensuring safety and security.

  • Fire & Emergency Planning

    • Multiple Fire Exit points strategically distributed around the building perimeter.
    • Clear emergency evacuation routes integrated within the site circulation.
    • Fire access maintained around key building edges in compliance with safety standards.

    Internal Circulation

    • Defined pedestrian pathways connecting entrances, courtyard, and landscaped areas.
    • Logical vehicular movement minimizing conflict between pedestrian and service zones.

  • Courtyard & Landscape Integration

A central Courtyard Garden acts as the heart of the project, providing:

    • A shaded outdoor gathering space.
    • Visual connectivity between internal functions.
    • Natural ventilation enhancement.
    • A safe semi-open environment for youth interaction and cultural activities.

  • Architectural & Spatial Planning (G+2 Configuration)

The building consists of Ground + 2 Floors, organized vertically for efficient functionality:

    Ground Floor

    • Grand reception and lobby.
    • Multi-purpose hall for events and performances.
    • Library facilities with independent access.
    • Activity and exhibition spaces.
    • Service and support areas.

    First Floor

    • Training rooms and workshop spaces.
    • Meeting rooms and youth activity rooms.
    • Administrative offices.
    • Overlooking visual connections to the courtyard.

    Second Floor

    • Additional specialized activity rooms.
    • Cultural program spaces.
    • Support and technical rooms.

Vertical circulation cores and fire exits are carefully positioned to ensure safe and efficient movement across all levels.
